Critical behavior of hard-core lattice gases: Wang-Landau sampling with adaptive windows
نویسندگان
چکیده
Critical properties of lattice gases with nearest-neighbor exclusion are investigated via the adaptive-window Wang-Landau algorithm on the square and simple cubic lattices, for which the model is known to exhibit an Ising-like phase transition. We study the particle density, order parameter, compressibility, Binder cumulant and susceptibility. Our results show that it is possible to estimate critical exponents using Wang-Landau sampling with adaptive windows. Finitesize-scaling analysis leads to results in fair agreement with exact values (in two dimensions) and numerical estimates (in three dimensions). PACS numbers: 05.10.Ln, 64.60.Cn, 64.60.De

Improving Wang-Landau sampling with adaptive windows.
Wang-Landau sampling (WLS) of large systems requires dividing the energy range into "windows" and joining the results of simulations in each window. The resulting density of states (and associated thermodynamic functions) is shown to suffer from boundary effects in simulations of lattice polymers and the five-state Potts model. Here, we implement WLS using adaptive windows. Instead of defining ...
متن کاملMonte Carlo simulations of two-dimensional hard core lattice gases.
Monte Carlo simulations are used to study lattice gases of particles with extended hard cores on a two-dimensional square lattice. Exclusions of one and up to five nearest neighbors (NN) are considered. These can be mapped onto hard squares of varying side length, lambda (in lattice units), tilted by some angle with respect to the original lattice. In agreement with earlier studies, the 1NN exc...
متن کاملTwo-dimensional lattice polymers: Adaptive windows simulations
We report a numerical study of self-avoiding polymers on the square lattice, including an attractive potential between nonconsecutive monomers. Using Wang-Landau sampling (WLS) with adaptive windows, we obtain the density of states for chains of up to N = 300 monomers and associated thermodynamic quantities. The method enables one to simulate accurately the lowtemperature regime, which is virtu...

We investigate the critical behaviour of hard-core lattice gases in four, five and six dimensions by means of Monte Carlo simulations. In order to suppress critical slowing down, we use a geometrical cluster Monte Carlo algorithm. In particular, nearest-neighbour-exclusion lattice gases on simple hypercubic lattices are investigated. These models undergo Ising-like ordering transitions where th...
متن کاملSurface adsorption of lattice HP proteins: Thermodynamics and structural transitions using Wang-Landau sampling
Abstract Wang-Landau sampling has been applied to investigate the thermodynamics and structural properties of a lattice hydrophobic-polar heteropolymer (the HP protein model) interacting with an attractive substrate. For simplicity, we consider a short HP sequence consisting of only 36 monomers interacting with a substrate which attracts all monomers in the sequence. The conformational “phase t...
